Why compare before applying
Applying to an agency is not a trivial move. Each structure has its own creative direction, specialties, and market. Taking the time to compare before sending an application avoids the mass mailing that makes profiles invisible, and lets you write a message that is truly targeted.
I recommend looking at three things : the kind of models the agency develops (women, men, children, curve, senior), its home city which drives the jobs you will access, and the year it was founded which hints at how established it is. A young agency can be an opportunity if you want to be one of the first profiles. A historical agency offers more security but also higher selectivity.
I also want to repeat a simple rule : a real agency never asks for money to sign you. No file fee, no mandatory paid book, no paid training course. If a contact starts by asking for a payment, this is an agency to avoid, no matter how polished the website looks.
Finally, compare the application channels. Some agencies have an online form, others expect an email with photos. That single detail changes how you prepare your material.
