Why compare before booking
Booking a photographer requires real comparison work. A single model may need raw agency polaroids, a more polished fashion book, or a magazine editorial : those are never the same profiles. A photographer excellent for weddings will not necessarily be the right pick for an agency book.
I first look at the specialty. A photographer who works regularly with agencies understands what they expect : clean framing, neutral light, no heavy retouching. That is very different from an editorial shoot where the image is reworked for an artistic result.
I then compare the price range. A very low rate can hide a lack of experience, a very high rate is not always justified. The point is not to pay more to get better work, but to pay a price consistent with the purpose of the session and the intended use of the images.
Finally, I check availability and location. A great photographer based far from your city adds travel fees that push the invoice up. Comparing 2 or 3 profiles in parallel lets you find the best balance between style, budget and logistics.
